Swine flu claims life

Bhubaneswar, Feb 22: The state health department here has confirmed the third death of a person due to the dreaded swine flu in the wee hours of Sunday in a private hospital in the city.
The latest victim of H1N1 virus is a 42-year-old man from Balasore who had been admitted to a private hospital here. “The person had tested positive for H1N1 Friday. Today he has been declared dead due to the virus,” said state public health director Kailash Das.
Advising people not to panic, the health director said the government has taken precautionary measures.
‘‘We have created isolated wards in the district hospitals and medical colleges for the swine flu affected patients. Besides, people are being sensitised about the disease,’’ said Dash.
The victim, Anup Kumar Sahu, was working as additional marine fisheries officer at Sunahat in Balasore district. He belonged to Bhutumudeni village of Jagatsinghpur district.
He was the third victim of the Swine flu in the state during the season. Earlier, a patient from Khurda district who was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack in a serious condition died of Swine flu February 1.
The second casualty was reported from a private hospital in Bhubaneswar when a HAL employee from Koraput who was tested H1N1 positive died at the hospital February 12 last.
All the three cases were reported in February.
State Health Department official sources said so far eleven people have been tested positive with the H1N1 virus out of 71 swab tests conducted this year. All the three government-run medical colleges and district headquarters hospitals are well-equipped with the facilities to treat and handle swine flu patents.
