Cuttack: A tainted employee of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), who was earlier relieved of his duty, has been recently reinstated in his post by the deputy commissioner of the civic body.
The CMC Commissioner had relieved the employee, a junior assistant, of his duties a few days ago after receiving several allegations against the latter. It has been alleged that the junior assistant was involved in several irregularities at the CMC including illegal recruitment of employees and misappropriation of funds.
Moreover, the junior assistant was caught by the Vigilance sleuths while accepting bribe March 6, 2011.
According to sources, former Corporator of Ward No.35, Dipabali Bhuinya, had alleged that the junior assistant misbehaved with her while she had approached the latter for some projects in July, last year.
Dipabali had lodged a formal complaint against the junior assistant with the CMC Commissioner January 7, this year. Subsequently, a CMC Standing Committee meeting had decided to take action against the employee January 9, sources said.
Accepting the Standing Committee’s recommendation, CMC Commissioner Sarat Chandra Nayak had relieved the junior assistant of his duty February 2. Nayak had directed another official of the civic body to look after the junior assistant’s assignments.
However, the junior assistant was reinstated in his post by an order of the CMC deputy commissioner February 8. It is learnt that the deputy commissioner had not consulted the CMC Commissioner while reinstating the junior assistant.
When contacted, Nayak said he would look into the issue. “I had no role in reinstating the junior assistant,” he clarified.
