Teacher assaulted for disciplining student

Puri: Disciplining a Class VI student cost an aspiring teacher dearly. The father of the student thrashed the teacher brutally at Bholanath Vidyapith here Wednesday.
Police rescued the teacher, Baren Harichandan, and brought him to the police station.
The school authorities lodged a complaint against the student’s father Pramod Jena. On the other hand, Jena lodged a counter complaint against the teacher.
According to sources, Harichandan is one of 18 students of the District Teachers’ Training Institute and are undergoing teaching training at Bholanath Vidyapith.
On Wednesday, Harichandan was teaching in Class VI at 3pm when Jena’s son allegedly created noise. Although the teacher warned him not to create noise, the student did not obey his instruction. Harichandan lost his cool and hit the student with a scale.The student suffered injuries to his right hand and informed his family.
When the classes began after the prayer Thursday, Jena entered Class VI where Harichandan was teaching and dragged him outside. Jena repeatedly slapped him and hit him. The school headmaster later controlled the situation. The police arrived at the school and took the teacher to the police station and recorded his statement.
Headmaster Jitendra Nayak said, “Jena is one of the members of the school managing committee. He assaulted the B. Ed training teacher. We will discuss the issue in the school managing committee meeting.”
