Teacher levels molestation charge against principal

Bolangir:  A woman teacher lodged a complaint with the police, alleging molestation and intimidation charges against the principal of Orissa Model School in Mahimunda village under Puintala block in this district, Saturday.

The victim, a science teacher in the school, has alleged that the principal Ashok Kumar Khatua has been torturing her mentally and physically for the last three months and forcing her to have physical relationship with him.

Police registered a case and started an investigation, IIC Jatindra Das said. A police team visited the Mahimunda model school and questioned the peon, night watchman and teachers in the school while Khatua was absent, Das said.

A month back, the victim had submitted her written complaint in speed post to the district collector, project director of the model schools, district education officer, block education officer and the tehsildar, demanding action.

The teacher finally lodged her complaint with police after she did not get any favourable response for her complaint, she told mediapersons here Saturday.

When contacted on his mobile phone, Khatua rejected the charges, stating them as false. The principal said he had pulled her up for coming late to the school and questioned the delay in submitting question banks in the Bhubaneswar model school.

As per her complaint with the police, the teacher said Khatua often used to call her to a room on the first floor of the school where he had laid a cot and made inappropriate gestures against her. He used to teach in class without covering the upper part of his body and would make obscene gestures at her.

Fed up, she visited his office and questioned his behaviour when the latter tried to touch her body inappropriately. He had also promised to help her in every way if she agrees to share physical relationship with him, she alleged. He threatened to extend her probation period and terminate her if she does not agree to his proposal and discloses the matter to anyone. PNN
