Sambalpur/Burla: Instead of searching for jobs, technical degree holders should utilise the country’s human resources which are available aplenty, Governor SC Jamir said Tuesday.
The chancellor of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) said this while attending the eighth convocation ceremony of the varsity at Visweswaraiah Auditorium at Burla.
Attending the programme as chief guest, NASSCOM CMD as well as CEO of Tech Mahindra CP Gurani said it is important for a student to put his skills to use after getting technical training at the university. “The nation grows with development of technology and students have a lot to contribute in nation building process,” he added.
While 23 students were given gold medals for excelling in various subjects, Gurani was conferred with Doctor of Science Award. The award was instituted after VSSUT was accorded university status.
VSSUT’s vice-chancellor E Saibaba Reddy shed light on the activities of the varsity, achievements of students, goals set by the management and research works to be undertaken by students. As many as 792 students of various departments received degrees on this occasion.
Among others, professors Pradip Kumar Dash, Prakash Kumar Hota, Amarnath Nayak, Sudheera Rath, Banaja Mohanty and Sharmila Gadnaik were present on the occasion.
A fire mishap was averted after fire brigade personnel immediately removed a light which suddenly generated smoke while the Governor was addressing the students. PNN
