Temple where alcohol is offered as ‘prasad’

India is a religious country known for its huge pantheon of gods and historic temples.

The country’s temples are steeped in history and mystique.

One such temple exists in Uttar Pradesh where people offer alcohol at the mausoleum which belongs to Khabis Baba. In this temple even monkeys get a taste of alcohol.

Located in UP’s Sitapur, liquor is offered as ‘prasad’ in this temple unlike other houses of worship where ‘prasad’ means something sweet and savoury.

According to reports, Khabis Baba of Sitapur is considered a form of Bhairav Baba.

The story behind this practice goes something like this. The saint who apparently made the place his abode 150 years ago had a strong attachment to his evening drinks. So even after his death, locals in the area, continued the practice of offering him alcohol.

A troop of monkeys also gather at the temple to taste the ‘prasad’. People also bring a variety of offerings for these monkeys as well.

According to locals, the offering of alcohol is quite old. There are many idols of gods and goddesses in the temple and people from far off places come here to worship.
