Tension flares over assault of disabled

Remuna: Tempers ran high in Remuna area of Balasore Saturday after a person allegedly attacked a differently-abled person at Hatiagand Chhak. Police arrested four persons from both the sides following complaints.

According to reports, a differently-abled youth identified as Sheikh Akthar Mohammed (32) of Rainagar under Ganipur panchayat had heated arguments with Badal Das and Jayant Das of Mandarpur near Basanti Mandap. The differently-abled youth was injured in the assault.

Police rushed to the spot and brought people from both sides to the police station. Both sides filed complaints against each other at the police station.
Following the incident, tensions ran high on the premises of the police station and Hatiagand Chhak

In view of the vulnerable situation, two platoons of police force were deployed at the places.
Nilagiri SDPO Sapneswar Mohapatra, Khantapada IIC Sudarshan Das and Silpanchal IIC Paresh Kumar Rout, tehsildar Binay Mohanty also rushed to the spot and tried to placate the angry people.

It was alleged that some people tried to portray the incident as the fallout of local political rivalry, but some political leaders wanted to settle the matter on the spot.
However, police paying no heed to the both the sides, arrested two persons each from two sides.

The arrested persons were identified by police as Badal Sahu, Jaychandra Das, Sheikh Akhtar Mohammed and Sheikh Azharuddin.

Police sources said as tension continued to prevail in the area, more police forces were deployed to keep a close watch on the unfolding situation. PNN
