Tension in Balasore village after man’s body found hanging from tree

Balasore: Tension ran high at Benuba village under Kamarda police limits in Balasore district after a mutilated body of a local timber trader was found hanging from a tree near the bank of a pond near the village Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Maheswar Chauhan.

In a bid to give the incident a suicide angle, some miscreants might have murdered Maheswar and then hanged his body, alleged locals and family members.

They also alleged that the murder was the fallout of past enmity.

They informed Kamarda police following which the cops reached the spot and started an investigation.

After policemen didn’t take the allegations made by the bereaved family, irate locals staged a road blockade on Jaleswar-Chandaneswar road near Benuba Chhak for four hours Thursday evening by placing the body on the road and burning tyres.

They also had a clash with police personnel during the agitation.

Though the situation turned violent, Jaleswar SDPO Ramchandra Gouda, Bhogarai BDO Diptiranjan Sethi and Tehsildar rushed to the spot and pacified the angry mob by assuring them a job for the next of the kin of the deceased. The officials also provided Rs 10,000 to the bereaved family for performing Maheswar’s last rites.

The post-mortem of the body was conducted at Jaleswar community health centre, Friday.

Police have registered an unnatural death case in this connection and started an investigation.
