Talcher, Feb 23: Tension prevailed in Ghantapada panchayat here after ash mixed water of Talcher Thermal Power Station (TTPS) in Angul district inundated farmlands in the area following a burst in the ash pipeline Monday.
The ash mixed water from the pipeline on Jagannathpur- Ghantapada road swept the farmlands triggering resentment among farmers.
The matter came to the fore after villagers noticed a blanket of ash covering their farmlands with ash mixed water gushing out from a pipeline near the conveyor belt of the thermal power station.
After the reports surfaced, TTPS officials, apprehending backlash, repaired the pipeline by late evening Tuesday.
Irked over the matter, former Zilla Parishad member Rajkishore Sahu met the sub-collector at his grievances redressal cell and lodged a complaint over the issue demanding necessary action for the lapse. Sahu simultaneously lodged a complaint in the Colliery police station.
He alleged agriculture activities have been severely hit in the region with many farmlands remaining unproductive for the reason. Sahu said dust from the conveyor belt and high powered light has affected agricultural productivity for which farmers are withdrawing from cultivation.
Villagers Manoj Pradhan, Birabar Sahu and Rudramohan Sahu blamed it on negligence of TTPS.
