Jharsuguda: A court in Jharsuguda district has delivered a verdict in a theft case within 17 days of its registration, sentencing the accused to six months in jail. Lakhanpur Civil Judge cum-JMFC Jaya Ray convicted Sanatan Kisan, 26, and sentenced him to six months in prison. According to the case dairy, four mobile phones and two earbuds were stolen from a common service centre (CSC) near Katarbaga School along NH-49 under Rengali police limits September 8. Acting on a complaint filed the next day, police registered a case (239/26) and arrested Sanatan Kishan of Deheridipa area under Rengali police limits. The case was investigated by SI Samarendra Nayak.
Based on information provided by him, police recovered two stolen mobile phones, an earbud and an iron rod from his house. The recovery was video-recorded. Police completed the investigation and filed the chargesheet in court September 19. Recording of evidence began September 21. The court Friday convicted Sanatan under Section 305(A) of the Bharati ya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sentenced him to six months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
Under Section 331(4), he was sentenced to three months in jail and fined Rs 2,000. Both sentences will run concurrently. Jharsuguda SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra supervised the investigation and court proceedings. Police said emphasis was placed on expediting the investigation, coordinating with the prosecution and ensuring speedy delivery of justice. The case was disposed of within just 17 days of registration, reflecting focus on prompt investigation and timely justice, police officials said. Earlier, the JMFC-4 court in Bhubaneswar had convicted Sunil Sethi in a theft case within 18 days and sentenced him to one year in jail.
