Third National Lok Adalat settles 3.64L cases in Odisha

Kataka: The third National Lok Adalat of the year was held Saturday under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) at various district-level courts in all 30 districts of the state.

It was also held at the Debt Recovery Tribunal and Consumer Court in Kataka, and the Industrial Tribunal and State Education Tribunal in Bhubaneswar. The Lok Adalat was conducted under the guidance of its patron-in-chief and High Court Chief Justice Harish Tandon and its executive chairman and High Court Judge Manas Ranjan Pathak.

A total of 3,64,261 cases were settled, including 12,157 pending cases, 3,39,025 revenue cases and 13,079 pre-litigation cases. An amount of Rs 21,94,638,964 was fixed towards fi nes and compensation.

Among the pending cases settled were 804 criminal compoundable offences, three plea-bargaining cases, 1,273 cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 707 bank recovery cases, 74 financial cases, one succession case, 1,301 motor vehicle accident cases, 1,428 traffic challan cases, 57 labour disputes, 22 land acquisition cases, 3,39,025 revenue cases, 641 matrimonial disputes other than divorce cases, 47 family disputes, 18 commercial disputes, seven arbitration cases, 33 consumer disputes, 2,348 civil disputes, 3,377 other cases referred for mediation, seven cases before the Debt Recovery Tribunal in Bhubaneswar and nine cases before the State Education Tribunal, the State Legal Services Authority said.
