Balasore/Nayagarh/Puri: Despite stringent measures to curb minor rapes, two separate incidents of rape were reported from the state.
A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her maternal uncle at Chandipur in Balasore, May 8. The incident came to the fore when the victim narrated her ordeal to her parents Thursday.
While the police immediately arrested the accused Banthu Marandi under the POCSO Act, both the accused and the victim have been sent for medical examinations.
Similarly, a physically-challenged minor was allegedly raped and impregnated by a 48-year-old man at Itamati village in Nayagarh district. The accused Duryadhan Sahu has confessed to the crime.
In another incident, a nine-year-old girl was raped inside the premises of a school in Jogeswarpur under Gop police limits hereThursday . The girl was rescued and rushed to the nearest hospital by her family, and then shifted to Capital Hospital as her condition deteriorated.
The girl was missing from her home and the parents were on a frantic search. After several hours, they found her in a critical condition in the school premises. Police is investigating the matter and are yet to identify the perpetrator.
