Kesinga: Three years have passed since the foundation stone for a drinking water project at Kesinga town of Kalahandi district was laid but the project is yet to see the light of day.
Apart from the delay, reduced flow of water in the Tel River has added to the woes of people.
Although Kesinga town is surrounded by Tel River, water scarcity is reported from Ward No-1 to 12.
The town, which has a population of about 22,000, requires 30 million litres per day (MLD). For this the state government has decided to provide an intake well to the town people in order to reduce the drinking water woes of the denizens.
Though the Kesinga block administration is providing water to the town people through 190 stand posts, the stand posts felt to meet the water requirement of the town people. Out of the 4,500 households only 1,240 households can be provided with water.
For this a new drinking water project i.e. 75 feet intake well was initiated at an estimated cost of Rs 2.4 crore and the state government laid the foundation stone for the project for the financial year 2017-18.
It is envisaged to draw water from the intake well at Tel River and pump it to two overhead tanks for supply after filtration. The project aims to meet the drinking water needs of the entire town.
Procedure like purchasing of private land for the construction of the drinking water project has already been carried out by the departmental authority in the same year. But the drinking water project yet to see the light of the day.
When asked the departmental officials said due to the heavy flow of water in the river, the project was not started.
