Tiger from ‘outside Odisha’ detected in Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj

Similipal

Baripada: Forest officials in Odisha’s Similipal National Park initiated an assessment Sunday to determine the origin and movement of a male tiger suspected to have migrated from outside the state.

Sources said the tiger was spotted during a routine patrol, and it is suspected to have covered nearly 1,500 kilometres from the Tadoba Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. However, authorities are yet to confirm the exact origin and the circumstances under which the tiger entered Similipal.

Notably, Similipal National Park, located in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, is a 2,750 sq km biosphere reserve and is renowned as the world’s only wild habitat of melanistic black tigers.
