Jajpur: A youth reportedly bludgeoned his father to death before setting his house on fire after the latter refused to give him money to buy liquor at Itapur village under Korei police limits in Jajpur district, the police said Sunday.
Accused Kalia Mukhi (25), in an inebriated condition, even did not spare his mother Punti Mukhi and assaulted her with an iron bar. The woman fractured her legs in the brutal attack.
The deceased was identified as Bijay Mukhi (52). Punti was rushed to the local government hospital in a critical condition after the incident late Saturday night, the police said.
She was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital, the police added. Kalia fled the scene after the incident.
Neighbours alleged Kalia killed his father and assaulted his mother under the influence of liquor. Police seized the body from Jajpur Road hospital and sent it for post-mortem to Danagadi hospital. A case was registered over a complaint lodged by the son-in-law of the deceased.
According to police, Kalia often used to quarrel with his parents over money for buying liquor. He came home drunk and demanded money from his father to buy more liquor late Saturday night. He had a heated argument with his father when the latter refused to give him money.
“In a fit of rage, Kalia bludgeoned his father to death with a stone and when his mother came to the rescue of her husband, the accused also assaulted her with an iron bar rendering her critical,” Jajpur superintendent of
police (SP) Anup Kumar Sahu said.
The deceased is an illegal hooch seller while Kalia is a tractor driver in the area. Kalia was so addicted that he spent all most all his earnings on liquor and never gave a pie to his family, sources said.
The police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused. PNN
