Toddler dies; mother, brother among 6 critical in honeybee attack

Keonjhar: A toddler died while six others including his mother and brother sustained critical injuries in a honeybee attack at Karangadihi village under Bansapal block in Keonjhar district Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as one-and-a-half-year-old boy Madhav, son of Upasi Katel.

According to reports, Upasi along with her two sons, three other family members and a neighbour had gone to a nearby agricultural land for work.

Unaware of a honey bee hive, the family left the children under a tree and went to work in the field. Meanwhile, disturbed by some source, the honeybees attack everyone present in the agriculture field.

Everyone ran helter skelter to save to their lives. However, Madhav was stung by more bees. Hearing their screams, local residents rescued them and rushed to the Bansapal Community Health Centre (CHC).

After preliminary treatment, Upasi and her two sons were shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Keonjhar after their condition worsened. However, Madhav succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The condition of Upasi and his three-year-old son is stated to be critical, while other injured persons are stable, reports added.
