Baripada: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy died after falling into a bucket of water while playing in the backyard of his home in Bhalupahadi village under Rairangpur Rural police limits in Mayurbhanj district, police said.
The child, son of Sraban Giri, was playing near a well behind the house when he reportedly went near a large bucket filled with water and accidentally fell inside.
As nobody was nearby at the time, the child remained unnoticed for some time before family members found him and pulled him out.
He was rushed to Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the village.
