Deogarh/Barkote: An orphan girl, who was reportedly assaulted in full public over suspected sorcery, Saturday sought intervention of SP seeking justice. The incident happened at Derapathar village under Barkot police limits in this district.
A case was registered over the victim’s complaint October 13. However, no steps were taken against the miscreants. The girl accused the police of suppressing the matter and sought protection from the SP, pleading with him to intervene and give her justice.
The girl took the step after miscreants reportedly pelted stones at her house threatening her to withdraw the case Friday night. She approached additional SP Saturday morning stating her life was in danger.
On hearing her pleas, additional SP Debiprasad Dash pacified the victim and assured her to take stringent actions against the accused.
According to sources, the victim after the death of her parents resided with her brother and did odd jobs to earn living. In the meantime, a neighbour suspected her of practicing sorcery after one of their family members took ill.
A village meeting was called over the incident. However, the neighbour allegedly dragged her out of house and assaulted her in full public. They manhandled her and threatened her before the meeting commenced.
The matter came to the fore after the girl escaped from the village and lodged a written complaint with the police. However, no one was arrested even after three days, she claimed in her complaint with the SP. PNN
