Tourism dept to develop five tourist sites

Bhubaneswar, March 7: The department of tourism has planned to develop five tourist spots across the state. The department is mulling to add some features to these spots in order to boost tourism.
The department has dispatched a letter to the CMD of IDCO to prepare estimates for developing these spots. Besides the development of a ropeway in Dhauli, the department wants to do peripheral development of Sikharchandi in Khurda district, development of ropeway at Bhimkund near Keonjhar, laser show in Bindusagar lake and developing the Kedar Gauri complex.
The department has allotted Rs 1crore to each project in order to boost tourism in the state. The letter from the tourism department, written on February 18, deals with the type of work to be done in these places.
When tourism officials were contacted for the details of these planned projects they did not divulge those.

The Famous Five
Dhauli Hill
This perfect weekend getaway is 8 km south of Bhubaneswar. It’s across the Daya river. Major edicts of Ashoka are engraved on a mass of rock here. It is presumed that the battle of Kalinga took place here. The Mauryan emperor Ashoka built several chaityas, stupas and pillars here. The most visited site here is, Vishwa Shanti Stupa, Peace Pagoda, at the top of Dhauli Hill, built through Indo-Japanese collaboration in 1972.

Best Time To Visit
Dhauli has a tropical climate. Summers are hot and winters cold. The best time therefore, to visit this place is in the winters, between the months of October and March.

Sikharchandi Hill
It’s an ideal spot to spend quality time with your near and dear ones. The hill close to the Chandaka Industrial Estate is famous for its deity Sikharchandi. The greenery around is not just soothing for the eyes but also the soul.

Best Time to visit
The winter and autumn is the best period of the year to visit the place as you will be able to really enjoy the scenic beauties of the area.

Bhimkunda
It’s a natural waterfall on the Baitarani. Situated along the Keonjhar-Mayurbahnj border, the waterfall is at the Dumuria gram panchayat area in Patna block of Keonjhar. The potential of this place to attract tourist to this mineral-rich area is enormous.

Best Time to Visit
During the sunset and in the winter season. The months between December and March are the best in a year to visit the place.

Bindusagar Lake
The Bindusagar Lake is one of the popular tourist attractions of Orissa. It is situated to the north of the Lingaraja Temple. It is a popular picnic spot. The idol of Lord Lingaraja (Lord Shiva), from the Lingaraja Temple, is taken to the lake every year for a ritual bath. The lake is about 1300 ft long and 700 ft wide.

Kedar Gouri Temple
Situated behind the Mukteswar Temple, the Kedargauri Mandir where Lord Shiva (Kedareswar) and Goddess Gouri (Kedar Gouri) live is one of the ancient temples in Bhubaneswar. The main attraction of Kedar Gouri temple is the 8-feet statue of Hanuman and Goddess Durga standing on a lion. The temple is also famous for the annual procession from the Lingaraja temple to the Kedar Gouri temple, to commemorate Lord Shiva’s marriage with Parvati.
