Bhubaneswar, May 30: Hosts Town Club beat Mukteswar Cricket Club (MCC) by two wickets in a thrilling encounter to enter the semifinals of the Town Club Junior League cricket tournament here Saturday.
Put into bat first, MCC scored 123 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their stipulated 30 overs, thanks to a brilliant half century by Kishan Patel (61). For the hosts, Amitansy Srichandan (3/14) bowled well. In reply, Town Club scrambled home in 29.1 overs with two wickets to spare. Man of the match Smruti Ranjan Swain (24) saw them through in the tense moments of the game.
Bidanasi blank Chand
Bidanasi Club and RBI Sports Clubs won their respective matches in contrasting styles Saturday in the Ist seven-a-side football tournament at the PM Academy Ground in Cuttack.
In the first match, Bidanasi Club blanked Chand Club 3-0. Bijay Behera (25th), Niroj Mohapatra (30th) and B Das (35th) were the scorers for Bidanasi. In the second match, RBI Sports Club defeated Barabati Sporting 4-2 via the tie-breaker. The match had ended 2-2 in regulation time.
Swimming championships
Orissa Olympic Association (OOA) will organise the 56th State Swimming Championship at the OCA Club Swimming Pool, Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, May 31-June 1. Around 200 swimmers in six categories from the districts are expected to participate in the meet.
Taekwondo meet
APN Taekwondo Academy will play host to the Cuttack district level Taekwondo meet at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium hall in Cuttack May 31. One hundred and twenty five participants from various districts will take part in the competition, which will be played in two
categories.
