Trader found dead, murder suspected

Puri: A petty trader of Dhanakuti Street of Bali Sahi in Town police limits was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the locality Friday.

The body of Krushna Chandra Sahu alias Bapi (32) bore several deep injury marks. It is believed that some people have killed Sahu and dumped his body alongside a road.

Family sources said Sahu had left home Thursday night to participate in a get-together organised at Shwetaganga Primary School. But, he did not return home. “Some people might have attacked Sahu with wooden planks and sharp weapons over some issues at the get-together. The small time businessman died in the attack,” said a police officer.

Town police registered a case as per a complaint filed by the victim’s family. “We have seized the body and sent it for post-mortem at the district headquarters hospital. A forensic team and a sniffer dog have been pressed into service to find out clues on the incident,” added the officer.

According to sources, Sahu was into conch shells business and had a stall near Srimandir. “We have found blood stains on the school premises. The mystery behind Sahu’s death will be solved soon. We suspect that some people have killed Sahu over previous enmity,” said Town police in-charge Umashankar Singh.

Locals, meanwhile, alleged that the primary school has become a den for anti-social elements. “Some criminals have been using the school ground as an open pub for last several days. We have raised the issue with police, but to no avail,” said a local.

Social activists and intellectuals have expressed concern over the falling law and order situation in the Pilgrim City. “Prior to Sahu’s murder, miscreants had killed lawyer Laxmidhar Mahapatra over some issues on the Grand Road October 18. Police have failed to improve law and order situation in the Holy City,” said a social activist.
