Traffic awareness vehicle flagged off in City

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police Monday flagged off ‘Sachetanata Rath’, a truck equipped with audio visual aid to create awareness among the denizens in the twin city regarding the new Motor Vehicle Act, 2019.

Sagarika Nath, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), flagged off the truck from Traffic police station at AG Square here. Earlier, a similar awareness vehicle was launched in Cuttack to help aware the citizens of Silver city. The vehicle is scheduled to travel across the city.

Speaking to media persons, Nath said, “Like the one rolled out in Cuttack four days back, we flagged off a similar vehicle in Bhubaneswar. The vehicle traveling across various places in the city within the jurisdiction of the Commissionerate Police will disseminate all the information through loud speaker and visual depiction. The sole purpose of the flagging off the truck is only to create awareness regarding the general road safety rules.”

“Now we see maximum number of commuters plying on the roads have started wearing seat belts and helmets,” Nath said while expressing her inability to tell the exact number of citizens doing this following the amended traffic rules.

She also reiterated that the Commissionerate Police has been stressing upon the five main rules informed earlier by Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi which includes helmet for two-wheelers, seat belts for cars and other vehicles, driving under the influence of alcohol, triple riding and driving on wrong side.

Nath said the awareness vehicle will travel across the city for the next 10 days

There is a target to operate the vehicle for 15 days in the both the cities. However, the continuation of the awareness drive will depend upon the state of awareness among the citizens.
