Tribal students lock school

Malkangiri: Over 400 tribal students of Ekalavya Adarsh Vidyalaya near Champanagar here Wednesday took to the streets and gheraoed their principal over their demands.

Their demands included posting of faculty members in important departments like Physics and Chemistry and provision of proper infrastructure.

The school is being run mostly by contractual teaching staff while the computer laboratory doesn’t function in the absence of internet connection, the students said.

The government has put the future of the students at risk by compromising with the quality of education, alleged the agitating students.

When contacted, the principal said the school is being run by the Integrated Tribal Development Agency of the government and the authorities concerned have been apprised of the problems.

The department is yet to respond on the issues, the principal said, adding, the matter is being resolved through discussion.

Project administrator Ramkrushna Ganda went to the scene and tried to pacify the students.  PNN
