Trident emerge triumphant

Cuttack, May 28: Trident Club emerged champions of the Laxminarayan Cup cricket tournament, beating Rising Students by 16 runs in the final at the Raj Kishore Vidyapith here Thursday.

Opting to bat first, Trident scored 148 for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 overs with contributions from Devraj Kar (38, 35b) and Md. Azhar (30, 16b).

In reply, Rising Students could manage only 132 runs in 13.3 overs getting all out in the process in spite of good batting display by Devapriya Patnaik (40, 36b) and Rajesh Dhuper (25, 13b). Man of the match Amitav Rout (3/25) was the pick of the bowlers for Trident.

Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak joined as the chief guest and distributed the prizes. Tarakant Samal was adjudged the man of the tournament.

BBCA win

BBCA registered a convincing 73 runs victory against Pragati Sporting in a match of the Town Club Junior Cricket League Tournament in Bhubaneswar, Thursday.

Put into bat first, BBCA notched up 185 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 30 overs with M Prashant (81) emerging as the highest scorer. Suman Das (3/28) bowled well for Pragati.

Chasing a victory target of 186, Pragati could manage only 112 runs for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated overs. M Prashant was adjudged as the man of the match for his brilliant batting display.

Chinmay enters final

Third seed Chinmay Pradhan of Orissa shocked second seed Kondri Srinivas of Andhra Pradesh 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals, Thursday, to enter the final of the All India National men’s ranking tennis championship at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. Chinmay will meet top seed Vijay Kannan of Tamil Nadu in the final. Vijay got the better of fourth seed Yashad Ganatra of Gujarat 6-3, 6-1 in the other semifinal Thursday.
