BHUBANESWAR: The popular web series Sacred Games by Netflix based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 thriller novel of the same name is gaining huge popularity for its hard hitting storyline and the acting of Stars like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte and others.
In the first season of eight episodes viewers saw many wow moments. For Odisha the show brings happiness as an Odia actor is donning the role of an antagonist. The actor, Chittaranjan Tripathy, has also directed cult movies like Dhauli Express and Mukhyamantri. He has acted in Hindi movies such as Delhi 6, Fantom, Talvar  and Tera Mera Tedha Madha.
The actor portrays one of the key villains in the show. Tripathy told Orissa POST that he was lucky to be a part of the show. Its casting director Mukesh Chabbra had sounded him about the role much earlier.
“I h’d worked with director Anurag Kashyap in Mukkabaaz. His interaction with the actors is special and that motivates them to put in extra effort. Even Vikramaditya Motwane who is the co-director of the show has a very cool way of dealing with the actors.
Both of them are innovative and think differently which reflects in their movies. Speaking about his role, Tripathy said every role has several shades. “You can’t say about any character as just one dimensional, that is the beauty of the show. It depends on the viewers to understand what they want to understand,” he said.
The content was very hard hitting and that’s why it’s best that it was showcased by Netflix which is a subscription-based streaming service and whoever wants to watch it can do so without offending anybody.
He said he is a big fan of Netflix shows Crown and Narcos. About the cliff hanger finale of the first series where he was shown tied up in the bunker, he said that he can’t say anything about the future of Sacred Games as he is under a contract not to say anything much. Acclaimed for his work in theatre and films outside Odisha, director-actor Tripathy says he was interested to work in Odia films but at present is waiting for the right script.
Tripathy, who had bagged state awards for his Dhauli Express and Love U Jessica is popular in Delhi’s theatre circles. His directorial drama debut, ‘Taj Mahal Ka Tender’, was a hit and ran for almost 20 years since 1998. About his co-actor Nawazuddin, he said “We are batchmates at National School of Drama in 1996.  We had unspoken chemistry between us. Things just happened during the shoot.’’
