Trishulia-Cuttack bridge to be ready soon

Cuttack, June 29: An house committee of Orissa Assembly Tuesday reviewed the progress of several projects undertaken by water resources and roads & buildings (R&B) departments in the Millennium City. The meeting said a crucial link between Trishulia and Cuttack over River Kathajodi would be completed by the end of 2016.
The committee headed by Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal along with MLAs Priydarshi Mishra, Rajashree Mallick, Muktikanta Mandal, Divyashankar Mishra, Nityananda Sahu and Prafulla Kumar Pangi held a meeting at the collector’s office after reviewing the projects at Goshala and Shikharpur areas.
A railway over-bridge (ROB) project at Goshala being undertaken by R&B department of the state government and the Railway Ministry figured in the discussion. The state government would spend Rs 38.18 crore while the Railway Ministry’s share would be Rs 10 crore for the 922 metre long ROB, said the meeting. The tender for the project will be floated within a month, R&B executive engineer informed the meeting.
A proposal to construct an underpass at Shikharpur Square of National Highway 16 to curb traffic snarls and frequent mishaps was also taken up for discussion by Biswal.
The committee also asked the collector and excise officials to ensure immediate shifting of the illegal liquor shops from near the temples and schools of the Silver City.
Water resources department executive engineer informed the meeting that the department had sent a proposal to the government for irrigating 4,000 acre land near Athagarh. The meeting also revealed that the Cuttack-Trishulia bridge and Chahata bridge would be completed by the year-end and 2017 respectively.
The meeting presided over by Biswal was also attend by collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra, Cuttack deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sanjeev Arora, Rural SP Madhav Chandra Sahu, civic body commissioner Gyana Das and executive engineers of the concerned departments, sources said.
