Bhubaneswar: Vehicular movement on NH-16 came to a standstill from Pahala to Rasulgarh Square after a truck caught fire on the Palasuni bridge here Wednesday, leaving commuters stranded.
According to reports, the goods truck was en route to Gujarat from Paradip when it caught fire due to engine overheating.
Noticing thick smoke billowing from the engine, the driver and helper jumped out of the vehicle to save their lives.
On being informed, fire personnel from Kalpana and Pahala fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
“We received information around 3 pm. Teams from Kalpana and Pahala reached immediately and extinguished the fire within 30 minutes,” said Assistant Fire Officer Manoranjan Rout.
