Tusker, boar electrocuted in Angul

Bantala: Forest officials Friday recovered the carcasses of a tusker and a boar near a drain at Mahulabania village under local police limits of Angul forest range.

Poachers had laid 11 KV live electric wires to kill wild animals, said the officials.

On being alerted, Angul ranger SS Panda, Bantala veterinary officer Dr Santosh Kumar Swain, a few energy officials, wildlife exert Rudra Narayan Pradhan of office of regional chief conservator reached the spot and seized the carcasses. They also seized a km-long rusted GI wire used for the killing.

A case has been registered and two tusks of two ft in length have been recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed that hunters have been poaching animals by laying live wire for a long time. However, neither forest nor electricity department had any clue in this regard, alleged locals. PNN
