Tusker tramples sexagenarian to death in Sundargarh

Sundargarh: A sexagenarian was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Jabaladihi Tampada near Kinjirikela of Balisankara block in Sundargarh district.

The deceased has been identified as Feje Pere (65).

According to reports, Feje had gone out for some work at 9 pm Wednesday when he came face to face with a tusker that attacked him following which he sustained grievous injuries. He was rescued by some locals in a critical condition and was taken to the district hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Similarly, a wild tusker killed a woman near Khandabandha Baitarani Reserve Forest under Champur Forest Range in Keonjhar district Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Lipa, wife of Bijay Munda of Khandabandha village.

Sources said Bijay along with his wife and son had gone to collect firewood from the nearby forest. While returning home, they came face to face with the tusker following which Bijay and his son ran for their life and escaped, but Lipa fell prey to the wild animal that grabbed her by its trunk and trampled her to death.
