The literal meaning of ‘Katha deli matha chhuin’ is keeping a promise. “Like its title the film will showcase whether the character, who is making a promise, is finally keeping it or not,” says director Shailendra Parida. The film casts Abhishek Rath, Riya and debutant Aman in the lead roles while Papu Pom Pom, Pintu Nanda, Mihir Das, Bijay Mohanty, Salil Mitra and others will share screen with the lead trio. “The film is a tale of ‘saga pakhala’ and ‘badi chura’. I mean it is meant especially for an Oriya audience,” says the director.
Lekha (Riya) elopes with Jeet (Aman) leaving behind all the allurements of her comfortable life behind. The couple takes shelter in the house of millionaire Pratap Babu (Bijay Mohanty). Despite his best efforts, Aman finds it difficult to make a living. At this juncture, she meets Krish, a brat (Abhishek), who falls in love with her. Lekha has two options before her. She can choose the poverty-assailed Jeet and receive hearty love from him or leave him by accepting Krish’s love. What her decision is the focal theme of the plot, says the producer Sridhara Martha.
The director is a known fight master. Was his efforts directed at making the film an action thriller? “No,” replies Parida. “After Badhu nuhen mu bandhu and Bhagabata Tungi this is my third directorial project. And I see the movie as a director should. So, there is no point making it action-packed,” he says.
“We have not seen an Oriya classic attain the level of perfection of, say, Manini or Kaveri in recent years. My wife came up with the story that had a complicated plot involving husbands and wives. I liked the story and decided to make the film,” says the producer.
“There are six songs in the film and ‘Emiti e jivana’ is especially soulful. Two characters departing is the sequence but the song has been composed in western rock style,” says music director Premanand. Produced under the Range Royal Cinelab banner, the film’s story has been penned by Chabita Martha, while Bapu Goswami has written the dialogues.
