Puri: A 6-year-old girl and a toddler died following suspected poisoning in the Samangara Nuasahi area of Puri Monday, while their mother is undergoing treatment.
The two children are suspected to have consumed poisoned food, according to preliminary medical findings. Their bodies have been sent for postmortem, while their mother was shifted to Capital Hospital in critical condition.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, raising questions about how the poisoning occurred. The woman’s father-in-law reportedly claimed that she had a mental health condition, while neighbours disputed the claim.
Police have launched an investigation into the deaths. Two cases have been registered based on the preliminary medico-legal case (MLC) reports.
A forensic team also visited the scene and collected samples as part of the investigation.
The children’s father, identified as Deepu, works as a marble mason. He and his wife had been living in a rented house a short distance from their family home since their marriage.
