Two children swept away in Rourkela drain

Rourkela, June 11: Two children were swept away in a drain in Shitalpada when they were playing, police said Thursday, adding one body was recovered by fire brigade personnel, and a search was continuing for the second. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon.
“The body of Bibeka Induka (3), son of Amar Indua, was recovered,” police said, adding that though fire fighters conducted a search operation till evening Thursday for the second boy, Padmanabh Rout (6), it did not yield result. The search operation was stopped by evening and it would be resumed Friday morning, fire officials said. Uditnagar police, who took charge of the body of Bibeka, kept it in a government hospital for post-mortem. His mother, who has gone to Jharsuguda for work, did not arrive.
Locals said the incident occurred when the two children, with a four-year-old girl Saloni, were playing with a ball near the drain Wednesday. As the ball fell into the drain, the two children got into the drain to get it back. They were swept away. Saloni raised an alarm and locals rushed to the sport and started a search for the boys in the water. Later, they informed the fire brigade personnel and the Uditnagar police.
Fire fighters resumed the search operation in the drain around 6 am Thursday. The body was recovered about five hours later.
