Two get 20-year RI for gang rape, robbery

Kendrapara: The District Sessions Court Judge Gourishankar Satapathy Tuesday sentenced two persons to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting them for gang rape and robbery.

The court convicted another accused to 10 years of RI for robbery, said Bhimsen Bhuiyan, public prosecutor.

The convicts are Babuli Jena, 45, Ashoka Jena, 35, and Paresh Mallik, 52. All of them are from Madhuban village.

Babuli, Ashoka and Paresh, and three others broke into a house in Madhuban August 7, 2013 midnight and robbed gold ornaments, cash, mobile phones and other valuables.

Babuli and Ashoka also raped a woman of the family and assaulted her husband.

The court sentenced Ashok, Babuli and Paresh to three years of RI and a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 457 of IPC and 10 years of RI and a fine of Rs 5,000 each under Section 395.

The court sentenced Babuli and Ashoka to 20 years RI for gang rape. The sentences would run concurrently, said Bhuiyan.
