Bhubaneswar: The special squad of Commissionerate Police late Saturday night arrested two gun smugglers including a person from Bihar at Budha Naagar under the Laxmisagar police limits here.
The accused were identified as Ajit Kumar Mohapatra, 32, alias Bapi of Mangalasahi in Samantarapur area on the outskirts of the city and Sujit Kumar Das, 19, of Pokhramal village under Hajipur police limits in Baishali district of Bihar.
Following a tip-off, the special squad sleuths and Laxmi Sagar police intercepted Das who was going to dispatch a 765-bore magazine loaded pistol smuggled from Munger district of Bihar. The sleuths arrested the smugglers when they were trying to hide behind a betel shop at Buddha Nagar Saturday night.
According to sources, both the culprits work as couriers only in the illegal trade of guns while the main culprits were still out of the net of the police. Police have started investigations into the matter after registering a case (No. 295) under sections 25 and 35 of Arms Act.
They were sent to jail by the court Sunday.
