Cuttack: Two persons have been arrested after they were caught with an illegal firearm and a stolen motorcycle near Basudevpur here late Thursday, a senior Chauliaganj police said Friday.
According to Chaluaganj police, Dinesh Kumar Behera (42) and Ratikanta Behera (32), both residents of Behera Sahi under Bidanashi police limits here, were speeding down on a motorcycle when police waylaid them near Basudevpur Thursday night. “Upon frisking, we stumbled upon a pistol and a sword. The duo, however, failed to turn up with the pistol licence. Later, we found that the motorcycle had also a bogus registration plate,” the official said, pointing out that the duo confessed that they were on way to rob commuters on Mahanadi bridge.
The official said that a 9mm pistol, a sword, two cell phones and a motorcycle have been recovered from them. Besides, a case (76/19) has been registered in this regard under relevant Sections of the IPC including that of 34, 369, 411 besides 25(1AA) of the Arms Act. “Efforts are on to trace the source of the firearms,” the official told the media.
