Two history-sheeters nabbed in Ganjam encounter

Berhampur: Two history-sheeters accused of hurling bombs on a foreign liquor shop in Gosaninuagaon in Ganjam over extortion demands were nabbed in an encounter late Friday night.

The accused identified as Muna Sahu (27) of Badasahi in Lochapada and Radhakrushna Sahu (22) of Badabazaar in Panigrahipentha villages of Ganjam district were absconding after the incident on Goods Shed road in Gosaninuagaon Friday.

Another of their accomplice managed to flee during the melee, SP Ashis Singh told mediapersons Saturday. With this, the total number of encounters in Berhampur police district has gone up to 30, Singh said.

A country-made revolver, four rounds of bullets, three live bombs and motorcycle were seized from their possession, Gosaninuagaon IIC Ramesh Chandra Dash said.

A case was registered and an investigation was launched to trace out the past criminal antecedents of the history-sheeters, town SDPO Shantanu Dash said.

The incident occurred when three miscreants alighted from a bike at Goods Shed road in Gosaninugaon and hurled bombs on a liquor shop. Later, they fled the scene. Over six persons including the shop manager sustained critical injuries in the incident and were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

The Gosaninugaon police scanned the CCTV footage of the shop and identified the miscreants. Police soon swung into action and raided a place under Baidyanathpur police limits after a tip off alerted them about the presence of miscreants in the area.

After seeing the police the miscreants tried to run away, but the cops fired at them. While one of them was hit on his right leg, another sustained injuries on his right toe.  PNN
