Two killed, 3 hurt in Ganjam hit-and-run

Digapahandi/Patapur: Two persons were killed while three others, including two women, were injured after a speeding car ran over them outside the passenger rest shed at Podamari bus stand under Patapur police limits in Ganjam district late Tuesday night. The injured were identified as Niranjan Mohanty alias Nira of P Ramachandrapur village under Sanakhemundi block and Seemanchal Pradhan of Podamari village. Amir Nayak of Padmapur village near Podamari sustained critical injuries in the mishap while the two injured women were yet to be identified. Niranjan, Seemanchal and Amir were waiting to board a bus for Bhubaneswar when a Mohana bound Tata Safari (OD 07AK-9974) from Digapahandi came at high speed and hit them.

On being informed, fire personnel from Sanakhemundi reached the spot and rushed the injured to Digapahandi community health centre. There the doctors pronounced Niranjan and Seemanchal dead. Amir was administered preliminary treatment and shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as his condition worsened. The two women with minor injuries were discharged after primary treatment. Patapur police registered a case and started an investigation into the incident. A manhunt is on to nab the absconding driver.
