Kuanrmunda: Two minor girls were allegedly gangraped in a forested area near Biramitrapur in Sundaragada district Monday evening, police said Wednesday, adding that five people have been detained for questioning.
According to sources, the suspects also threatened the victims with a firearm and warned them not to disclose the incident.
The girls and their families did not report the crime immediately, reportedly out of fear.
Acting on information from a reliable source, Biramitrapur police detained the suspects Tuesday night and are currently questioning them.
Biramitrapur police station Inspector-in-Charge Ram Prasad Nag said the statements of both victims had been recorded and confirmed that the five suspects were being interrogated.
No formal complaint had been registered at the police station by the time of fi ling this report.
