Sundargarh: With two tuskers camping in Bonai forest range in Sundargarh district following their separation from the herd for last five days, the residents of nearby villages are spending sleepless nights.

These two pachyderms have unleashed a reign of terror in Bonai, Tamara and other villages, forcing the villagers to remain inside their houses even during daytime.

Since day one, they have been on a damage spree. Acres of crops have been destroyed, leaving the farmers a worried lot.

Meanwhile, a range officer, an ACF and an elephant squad are in the village to drive the animals into the forest. They are keeping a constant watch over the movements of the tuskers.

According to a source, the elephants were last spotted near the inspection bungalow of the forest department in Bonai town.

The irked villagers have demanded compensation for the crop damage caused by elephants.
