Two workers killed in crusher unit mishap

Balipada: Two siblings, both working at a crusher unit, were crushed to death under the trolley of a tractor at Gurunthi-based Laxminarayan Crusher Unit under Sadar police limits in Ganjam district Friday.

The deceased were identified as Kalia Sethy (33) and Babu Sethy (35), sons of Raghu Sethy of Palasi village under Sadar police limits. The incident triggered tension among coworkers and locals who staged a demonstration at the unit until the police arrived and brought the situation under control.

According to sources, the two brothers were engaged in loading and unloading stone chips on a tractor at the crusher unit. They loaded stone chips from the crusher unit and were taking rest when they were crushed under the tractor trolley while the driver was trying to turn the vehicle. The two were killed on the spot. The driver was identified as Subash Chandra Sahu of the same village.

Sadar SDPO Ashok Mohanty and Sadar IIC Siba Shankar Mahapatra along with a police team reached the village and launched a probe. The bodies were seized and sent for post-mortem to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

Subash was detained and a probe is on, IIC Mahapatra said.     PNN
