Baleshwar/Basta: A local court here in Baleshwar district awarded a two-year jail term to two persons after convicting them in a 2012 assault case. The convicts were identified as Sukumar Das and Sukanta Kumar Das of Champala village under Singla police limits.
The First Class Judicial Magistrate of Basta, Sunita Mishra, sentenced them to one year in prison under each of two separate sections and slapped a penalty of Rs 1,000 on each of them. In default of payment, they will undergo an additional one month in jail.
According to the prosecution, complainant Kanchan Das and his family members were assaulted in 2012, following which a complaint was lodged at Singla police station. Police registered a case (44/12) and conducted an investigation.
After a prolonged legal process, the court found both accused guilty and sentenced each of them to one year’s imprisonment under two separate sections and imposed a penalty of Rs 1,000 each.
