Types of fire extinguishers and their use

Fire cases are reported more in summer season. Incidents of fire in agricultural fields, a short circuit and all are mostly reported during summer.

You must have seen the fire brigade department trying to control the fire through fire extinguisher. And they are of different types. But have you ever thought about how many types of extinguishers are there?

The use of a fire extinguisher depends on the fire situation. Extinguishers used to extinguish gas fires are not used to overcome fires in paper, clothes and wood. It has different type of work, So let’s know in detail about these extinguishers.

Foam Extinguisher: Foam extinguishers are some of the best for liquid fires, such as gasoline fires, but can also be used on Class A fires involving solid combustibles like wood.

They spray a type of foam that expands when it hits the air and blankets the fire. This blanket prevents the vapors from rising off the liquid to feed the fire, thus starving it of fuel. Also, because the foam is mixed with water, it has a cooling effect as well.

Water Extinguisher: Water Extinguishers are most commonly used as it is cheap. According to the effect of the firewater extinguishers are used.

Powder Extinguisher: This extinguisher is used in many forms. This extinguisher is mainly used within a large building. Powder extinguishing is used in places where no other extinguisher can be used.  This extinguishes sprays a very fine chemical powder composed most commonly of monoammonium phosphate. This acts to blanket the fire and suffocate it.

Carbon Dioxide Extinguisher: Such extruders are used in places where there are more electrical appliances. Carbon dioxide extinguisher is used to extinguish a fire in a company’s server room. Carbon dioxide extinguisher has a black color level. By using it, the fire can be controlled very quickly. However, carbon dioxide extinguisher is significantly more expensive than other extinguishers. A carbon dioxide fire extinguisher (CO2) is one of the cleanest types of extinguishers.

Wet Chemical Extinguisher: The Wet Chemical Extinguisher is very effective in extinguishing fires caused by vegetable fats or oils. This extinguisher is very effective if used properly. Weight chemical extinguisher has a yellowish colour on the cylinder.
