Cuttack: Orissa registered an emphatic eight wickets victory over the Associate and Affiliate (A&A) team on the third and the final day of the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy at the Bidanasi Ground, here Thursday.
Orissa knocked off the victory target of 43 runs for the loss of only two wickets in their second essay. Earlier A&A, resuming at their overnight score of 77/1 were bundled out for 155 in the second innings. Zain Kazmi (72) batted well for the losing team. Abinash Singh (3/6) bowled well for Orissa.
Brief scores: A&A 172 and 155 (Zain Kazmi 72; Abinash Singh 3/6) lost to Orissa 285 and 45/2 by eight wickets.
Young Veterans in semis
Young Veterans (YV) entered the semifinals of the Puspalata Garabadu Memorial Masters cricket tournament after beating Pioneer Gold Club by 32 runs in a quarterfinal match at the Town Club Ground in Bhubaneswar, Thursday.
Opting to bat first YV rode on splendid half centuries by man of the match Narayan Moharana (74, 58b, 9×4, 1×6) and Dipti Patnaik (58, 44b, 9×4) to score 157 runs for the loss of two wickets.
YV bowlers then got into the act and restricted Pioneer to 125 for eight. Khirod Mishra (46) was the only player to offer some resistance with the bat for Pioneer. Soumitra Sethi (3/33) was the best bowler for Young Veterans.
