UKS climbers hog limelight

Winners of State Schools’ Open Chess Championship pose with their trophies and certificates in Bhubaneswar, Sunday    

Bhubaneswar: Utkal Karate School (UKS) climbers performed splendidly on the inaugural day of the IInd State Odisha Sports Climbing Championship at the Kalinga Stadium here Saturday.

In the men’s open speed event Rajani Bisi of UKS emerged champion while Sonath Mundari of Sundargarh finished runner-up. Bishnu Kolar of Nabarangpur secured the third position.

Anupama Swain of UKS clinched the senior open women’s speed event title and Monika Bek of Sambalpur secured the second position. Gayatri Murmu of UKS finished third.

In the junior men’s event Amlan Barik of Bhubaneswar emerged champion and Anwesh Punit Lenka of UKS finished runner-up.

In the sub-junior girls’ segment Bhargabi Bhabani Jena took the top honours and Madhupriya Bai stood second. Fifty participants are taking part in the meet.

 

Aryan emerges champ

Aryan Arnab Samantray of Mother’s Public School emerged champion in the State Schools’ Open Chess Championship, which concluded here Sunday.

Aryan took the top honours with 6.5 points. Tanmaya Kumar of Stewart School finished runner-up with six points and OMM Aditya Khadanga of Mother’s Public School secured the third position with 5.5 points. Debi Prasad Patnaik stood fourth and Rhea Mohapatra finished fifth.

Special prizes: (U-8) Rohit Mallick; (U-10) Trideb Sahoo; (U-12) Dibyasingh Ray; (U-14) Aashirbad Ojha; (Girls’) Shreyashi Malla.

 

Pratyasha bags bronze

Pratyasha Roy of Odisha clinched a bronze medal in the junior girls’ 100m backstroke event of the National Swimming Championship at Pune, Sunday. She finished third with a time of 1:09.20 seconds.

 

FAO Youth League

In order to strengthen the junior football and in line of youth development programme of All India Football Federation (AIFF), Football Association of Odisha (FAO) will organise the FAO Youth League (U-18) for boys in September. Any football club from Odisha is eligible to participate in the league. Interested clubs should contact FAO office immediately.
