Malkangiri/Balimela: Maoist violence continued for the third consecutive day in the district Wednesday with the murder of a 40-year-old tribal here by the left wing extremists.
The deceased was identified as Sadhu Hantala of Pipalapadar village under Chitrakonda police limits. Sadhu was working as a supervisor in a road construction project under Pradhan Mantri Gramya Sadar Yojana but the ultras suspected him to be a police informer, it was learnt.
On the other hand Sadhu’s wife Dalima and daughter Padma said he paid with his life for selling milk to jawans in the nearby BSF camp. Sadhu had never received any warning from the rebels in the past nor had he worked as a police informer, the family said, adding, he was selling milk to supplement his earning.
The Maoists also set ablaze two tractors, a JCB machine and some vehicles engaged in a road construction work in the area, Malkangiri superintendent of police Jagmohan Meena said.
The incident came a day after another tribal man was killed by the Maoists at Jandraguda village in Mathili police station area of the district.
The extremists had Sunday night set fire to around 10 vehicles and machines engaged in road construction work at Andrahal in Mudulipada police station area of the district.
Around 20 armed ultras barged into Sadhu’s house Tuesday night and dragged him out, accusing him of being a police informer, SP Meena said.
Sadhu’s body was found with his throat slit on the outskirts of the village this morning, he added.
Police have stepped up combing operation and patrolling in the district following the incident, the SP said.
Meanwhile, Maoist posters were sighted at various places of the district including MPV-35 and MV-70.
In the posters put up by the members of Kalimela Anchalika Committee of CPI (Maoists) the ultras asked people to launch attacks on police camps.
The rebels warned of capital punishment for those who would work as police informers. PNN
