Ultras storm construction site, torch equipment

Kalyansinghpur: After a brief lull, the Maoists have once again resorted to violence to make their presence felt in Rayagada district, Sunday.

Cadres of the Rayagada area committee division of the Maoists torched four tractors, a JCB, a Mahindra Bolero and four motorbikes at a road construction site at Naringi Tola village at the foothills of Niyamgiri under Kalyansinghpur block.

About 20-25 armed ultras stormed into the camp of the contractor and assaulted the labourers. They drove away the workers before setting the vehicles on fire.

Before going, the ultras left behind two posters through which they opposed the road construction project.

According to sources, Rs 58 lakh was sanctioned for the road project in the village under the Pradham Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

About 15 km stretch of the road construction has been completed. The Maoists had earlier torched two JCBs, a drilling machine and a tractor calling out against road construction to Lambha village in the same block.

The violent activities of the Maoists have severely affected developmental work in the district. Police force was deployed to overview a road construction work. But the Maoists attacked the police and burnt down the construction camp.

Despite regular combing operations, the ultras pose an open challenge to the police and jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force.   PNN
