Chandbali:  An accused with hand-cuffs on had jumped from a bike and fled while he was being taken to Bhadrak jail from Bansada police station Tuesday evening. The accused, Rajendra Barik, had been arrested in connection with passing of lewd comments to a college girl.

Police mounted a search operation and re-arrested him in Jaleswarpur. However, two policemen were suspended in this case.

It should be stated here that police had arrested Rajendra from Paramanandapur Durga Mandap Monday evening. He was produced in court Tuesday.  As his bail plea was rejected, he was sent to jail. Bansda police had hand-cuffed him and were taking him to Bhadrak jail on a bike.

As the bike reached Nalgunda Bazar on Bhadrak-Chandbali road, it slowed down due to a speed-breaker. Taking advantage of the slow pace of the bike, Rajendra was sitting between two cops, managed to jump off the bike.

Two police officials – Tusharkant Das and Mushal Hansda – were placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.
