Raurkela: An undertrial prisoner escaped from police custody while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Odisha’s Sundaragada district, an official said Wednesday.
Tekchand Behera, arrested in a murder case registered at Sundaragada Sadar police station in April 2025, was admitted to Sundaragada District Headquarters Hospital.
He went to the toilet to attend nature’s call Tuesday night and fled from the hospital, police said.
Security personnel had been deployed to guard him, but he managed to escape, they said.
The jail authorities later informed Sundaragada Town Police Station about the undertrial’s escape.
A dog squad and police personnel were pressed into service to trace him. However, Behera remained absconding till Wednesday evening, a police officer said.
