Bhubaneswar: Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati Tuesday stressed that unity in diversity is not just a slogan but a shared national responsibility. He was speaking at the Foundation Day celebrations of Assam and Nagaland at New Abhishek Hall, Lok Bhavan.
First Lady Jayashree Kambhampati was also present. Extending warm wishes to the people of Assam and Nagaland, Kambhampati said the occasion represents not only the rich history of these two proud states but also the values that bind the nation together: unity, respect, and a shared vision.
He added that India grows stronger when its diversity is honoured with sincerity.
Highlighting Assam, he said it is a land of the Brahmaputra, verdant tea gardens, rich wildlife, spiritual heritage, and vibrant festivals like Bihu, serving as a cultural anchor for the Northeast.
Praising Nagaland, he lauded the state’s tribal heritage, the Hornbill Festival, and its strong sense of community as examples of unity in diversity, praising its people for their honesty, warmth, and discipline.
Kambhampati emphasised that India’s development is a collective journey shaped by every state and every culture.
He said that when the nation progresses with mutual respect and shared responsibility, challenges become easier to overcome, and collective goals become achievable.
The Governor appreciated PM Narendra Modi’s initiative, Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, calling it a meaningful effort to reinforce national bonds.
He also lauded Odisha’s inclusive spirit, noting that many from the Northeast have made the state their second home.
During the event, a video message from Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was also played.
Additionally, northeastern natives residing in Odisha, including Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, Principal Secretary, Excise Department (Assam native), and Temjenwapang AO, Special Secretary, Planning & Convergence Department (Nagaland native), shared their experiences.
The celebration also featured several cultural performances.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Governor, Roopa Roshan Sahoo, delivered the welcome address.
