Lucknow: An Uttar Pradesh government hospital staff passed away Sunday evening, 24 hours after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine shot.
The incident took place in Moradabad. The district’s Chief Medical Officer, however, insists that the death is unrelated to the vaccine shot.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old ward boy Mahipal Singh, died after complaining of breathlessness and chest congestion. Singh’s family revealed that he had been unwell before taking the vaccine shot.
“He was vaccinated on Saturday around noon. On Sunday he felt breathless and complained of chest congestion. We are inquiring into the reasons of the death. We will get a post mortem done. It does not seem to be a reaction to vaccination. He did night duty on Saturday too and there were no problems,” Moradabad’s Chief Medical Officer MC Garg said.
Following a post mortem, it was revealed that the immediate cause of death was ‘cardiogenic shock/septicemic shock’ due to ‘cardio-pulmonary disease’.
Even though Singh’s death is unrelated to the vaccine shot, his son claims that Singh felt worse after receiving the shot.
“My father left the vaccination centre around 1.30 pm, I brought him home. He was feeling breathless and he was coughing. He had a bit of pneumonia, the usual cough and cold, but he started feeling worse after returning home,” Mahipal Singh’s son Vishal said.
The Uttar Pradesh government said in a press release that 22,643 people were vaccinated Saturday. The next vaccination drive in the state is scheduled for Friday, January 22.
